Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 5, 2026
In short: Better Playlists runs in your browser. It does not collect, sell or share your personal data, has no analytics or ads, and never sends your playlists to us. The only time it contacts our server is when you activate or renew a Support Pack license.
This policy explains how the Better Playlists browser extension ("the Extension") and this website handle information. The Extension is made by Paper Crane Dev ("we", "us").
1. What the Extension does with your YouTube data
To show your playlists and let you organize them, the Extension reads and, when you ask it to, changes your playlists on YouTube. It does this from inside your YouTube tab, using the YouTube session you are already signed in with. These requests go directly from your browser to YouTube, the same way YouTube's own page makes them.
- We never see your YouTube password, cookies or session.
- Your playlist contents, watch history and account details are never sent to us or to any third party.
- The Extension doesn't use the YouTube Data API or ask for Google account permissions.
2. What is stored on your device
The Extension stores the following in your browser's extension storage, on your device only:
- Your settings, such as which pages to replace and when to ask before removing videos.
- A cache of your playlists and a search index, so pages load quickly and you can search across playlists. It is kept separately for each YouTube account you use.
- Your theme choice and, if you bought the Support Pack, your license state.
Uninstalling the Extension deletes all of this. We have no copy of it.
3. Support Pack licenses
If you buy the Support Pack and activate it, the Extension sends the following to our license server:
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your license key | To check that it's valid and was bought for Better Playlists |
| A random install ID, created by the Extension | To count activations (up to 10 browsers) and let you free a slot |
The install ID is a random value, not tied to your identity, your YouTube account or your hardware. The Extension periodically renews the license with the same data, and sends the key and a signed activation record when you deactivate a browser. Nothing else is sent, and nothing is sent if you never activate a key.
Purchases are handled by Gumroad or, in mainland China, 爱发电 (Afdian). They process your payment and email under their own privacy policies. Our license server checks Gumroad keys with Gumroad to confirm they're valid. We don't receive your card details.
4. Permissions
storageandunlimitedStorage: to keep the settings, cache and search index described above. Large playlists can exceed the default storage quota.- Access to
https://www.youtube.com/*: to show the sidebar and playlist tools on YouTube and read and edit your playlists there. The Extension doesn't run on any other website.
5. What we don't do
- No analytics, telemetry, crash reporting or tracking pixels.
- No ads, and no selling or sharing of data with anyone.
- No use of your data for credit decisions, profiling or AI training.
- No remote code: everything the Extension runs ships inside it.
The use of information received from YouTube complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
6. Contacting us
If you email us at contact@papercranedev.com or write in our Discord, we see what you send, including your email address or Discord name. We use it only to reply and to fix the problem you reported.
7. This website
This website has no analytics or tracking cookies. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Your theme choice on this page is saved in your browser's local storage and never sent anywhere.
8. Children
The Extension isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone.
9. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects what data leaves your browser, we'll also mention it in the Extension's release notes.
